(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Fire damaged a home in southeast Cedar Rapids today (Tuesday). Firefighters were called to a fire in the 300 block of 30th St SE at 11:10a.m. The fire department says the resident of the home had safely escaped the fire, which is believed to have started in the basement.
Heavy smoke was present in all areas, including the second story where two cats were rescued form a bedroom.
Crews chainsaws on the exterior walls to reveal spaces in the walls where fire was able to extend to the kitchen.
The fire caused considerable fire and smoke damage to the home, there were no injuries. No word yet on what caused the fire.
