(Ankeny, IA) -- The City of Ankeny is notifying residents of a road construction project on the West First Street starting Saturday, April 9, 2022, weather permitting.
The work this spring and summer will consist of the removal and replacement of the northern two lanes of pavement between SW Scott Street and SW Logan Street. The project is expected to be completed in October.
- Traffic on West First Street, from SW Scott Street to SW Logan Street, will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
- NW School Street will be closed during the first phase and left turn lanes will be maintained at the NW Ash Drive/SW Cherry Street intersection.
- Some side roads, driveways, and alleyways will allow right turns only to better maintain traffic flow on West First Street; this includes City Hall and Parkview Middle School.
- Full access will be maintained at the NW Ash Drive/SW Cherry Street intersection during the first phase of this project.
- SW Scott Street, SW Maple Street, and SW Logan Street will be closed at West First Street for the entire construction season.
- NW School Street will be closed from West First Street to just south of the first driveway on the east side of NW School Street this spring. The signed detour route for NW School Street will be West First Street, North Ankeny Boulevard, and NW 5th Street.
A signalized crossing will be maintained for the High Trestle Trail throughout this phase of construction at its current location on West First Street. A signalized pedestrian crossing will be maintained on the west leg of the SW Cherry Street/NW Ash Drive intersection at all times during this phase of the project.
This project involves the complete reconstruction of West First Street to widen the street from a 4-lane to 5-lane roadway with a center continuous left turn lane.
