(Des Moines, IA) -- A judge's decision that Abby Finkenauer failed to get enough signatures to be on the U-S Senate primary ballot, will be appealed this week to the Iowa Supreme Court.
The case is to go before the court this Wednesday afternoon.
A Polk County District Judge ruled that Abby Finkenauer does not have enough valid signatures to be on this summer’s Democratic primary ballot for United States Senate.
Two Republicans brought forward the lawsuit claiming Finkenauer did not meet the signature minimum requirements in Allamakee County and Cedar County. The decision reverses a decision by a three-person state panel made up of State Auditor Rob Sand, Secretary of State Paul Pate, and state Attorney General Tom Miller. Finkenauer, is a former Congress member from Iowa's First District.
Retired Navy Adm. Michael Franken and Dr. Glenn Hurst have qualified for the Democratic primary.
The winner of the primary will face incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Charles Grassley in the general election.
