(Des Moines, IA) -- Allegiant Airlines has started a new route connecting Des Moines and John Wayne Airport in Orange County California. There will be two flights per week. Des Moines International Airport Spokesperson Kayla Kovarna says depending on demand, the non-stop route is expected to continue thru late fall. She also notes Allegiant is starting a flight from Des Moines to Newark, New Jersey in a couple of months.

July of 2021, Allegiant made Des Moines a hub, expanding the options for travelers. Kovarna also says leisure travel in Des Moines has bounced back from the pandemic. She says it may be even stronger, due to pent up demand for travel in general. She says spring break was very strong and moving into summer they're expecting more family vacations.

She also notes the airlines and other entities are hiring, and there are ample job opportunities.
