(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines Blank Park Zoo has opened a new area named “GoGo Plaza" near the tortoise and penguin habitat. The area includes a family restroom with an adult-sized changing table, a cooling area, a mother’s room, snack stand, restrooms, indoor and outdoor water bottle filling stations and shaded seating areas. GoGo Plaza is named for and dedicated to Gloria Burnett, a long-time, passionate supporter of Blank Park Zoo.
“We wanted to offer visitors these features for many years and we are glad to see GoGo Plaza become a reality,” said Anne Shimerdla, president and CEO. “Blank Park Zoo is one of the first cultural attractions in the area to offer an adult-sized changing table. The feedback we have received from guests has been very positive.”
The 1,500 sq. foot building and surrounding plaza were constructed for a cost of $770,000 with donations from the Burnett family in honor of Gloria Burnett, Gordon Smith, BRAVO of Greater Des Moines and the W.T and Edna M. Dahl Trust.
