(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A man's facing charges in a deadly motorcycle crash in Cedar Rapids. Police say 39-year-old Carlos Garcia of Cedar Rapids was driving an S-U-V that lost control near I-380 and Highway 30 shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday. Police say Garcia hit a motorcycle operated by 53-year-old Jeffrey Lankford of Cedar Rapids. Garcia is charged with vehicular homicide and operating while intoxicated.
A preliminary investigation indicates Garcia attempted to exit I-380 south with the intent of making the turn to head toward Highway 30 east. The SUV veered away from the exit ramp, through a grassy divide and back onto I-380 where it collided with the motorcycle, also southbound on I-380. The motorcycle driver was thrown from the motorcycle and died. The driver of the SUV no injured.
