(Des Moines, IA) -- Buyers paid more for homes in the area last month compared to a year ago. The Des Moines Area Association of Realtors says the median sale price in April was nearly 267-thousand dollars, up 9-percent over last year. More than 13-hundred homes sold in the Des Moines area last month, similar to last year's numbers.
Average days a property was on the market was 32-days. The Des Moines Area Association of Realtors says the amount of available properties rose slightly last month, with 1,791 properties compared to 1, 702 in March.
1,004 properties sold were financed conventionally, cash purchases accounted for nearly 12-percent of the sold properties.
"It's great to see the number of homes slowly increasing. It is an extremely fast-paced market. The pool of buyers is strong and multiple offers are still very common. For these reasons, we encourage any potential buyers to use a Realtor as their guide. In addition, it will be important to have their finances in order and ready to move quickly once they begin looking for homes," said DMAAR President Jen Stanbrough.
