(Undated) -- Travelers on Iowa highways this Independence holiday weekend will likely see more state troopers. Sergeant Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Patrol says more troopers will be on duty between Friday, July 1st, thru Tuesday July 5th. He says the July 4th holiday travel period is expected to be busy.

Sgt. Dinkla reminds drivers to obey all the traffic laws, don't drink and drive, and buckle up. He says so far this year there have been 147 fatalities on Iowa roads and nearly half involved people who were not wearing a seat belt.

Sgt. Dinkla also says troopers continue to see drivers driving at extremely high speeds, a trend that started during the pandemic lockdowns and has continued.

Triple A is projecting more than 47.9 million people will travel at least 50 miles over the holiday period, Friday thru Tuesday.
