(Des Moines, IA) -- The Iowa State Fair is hiring between 1,100 to 1,300 part time employees for a wide range of jobs, from parking and maintenance to jobs at the Giant Slide and selling Barksdale cookies, as well as behind the scenes jobs. CEO Gary Slater says there's a hiring event tomorrow, July 7th at the Elwell Family Food Center on the fairgrounds.

Applicants 14 and up are welcome to attend the event from 2-7 p.m.

Slater says most positions have two shifts, an early and a late shift. Employees generally work an 8-to-10 hour day.

Those who miss the hiring event Thursday can apply at the Administration building.

The Iowa State Fair is August 11-21.

Most independent concessionaires and vendors hire separately.
