(Altoona, IA) -- A trainer has been fined $1,000 and suspended for 15-days after a horse at Prairie Meadows Race Track and Casino tested positive for meth. Brian Ohorilko of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission says the horse was disqualified from its first place finish. He say the horse's groomer tested positive for meth so it's believed the horse was exposed due to cross-contamination. He notes the amount of meth in the horse's system was very small.

Ohorilko says the state typically sees between 5 and 15 drug positives in horses in any given year. He says horses are tested before and after races.
