(Sarpy County, NE) -- The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects in an unprovoked 4th of July attack.
The Sheriff's Office says on July 4th, a family was sitting outside on their driveway near 132nd and Harrison enjoying the fireworks, when they were approached by multiple suspects. Investigators say the suspects began to ignite Roman Candle fireworks and shoot them at the victims in the driveway. Sarpy County Sheriff's Lt. James Wrigley tells KFAB Radio News, "The natural reaction is to go confront these people, and push them away, get them off their property and that's when kind of a melee happened." A physical altercation ensued with two victims suffering injuries. A 61 year old male victim suffered broken ribs, while a 35 year old male suffered serious head injuries. Wrigley says, "He was almost knocked unconscious, had an orbital fracture and some facial fractures."
Wrigley says after the assault, the suspects fled the scene in a black Dodge Ram truck with chrome wheels. He says investigators believe the suspects are of family relation. "Two adults and then multiple teenagers, you know going from late teens all the way down to what people are describing (as) almost a nine year old. So, very very concerning behavior."
There are four suspects the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office needs assistance in identifying:
- Suspect #1. White male mid to late 30s, 6'0", scruffy facial hair, brown hair.
- Suspect #2. White female mid to late 30s, 5'8", 155lbs, dark hair in a ponytail.
- Suspect #3. White male 15-17 years old, wearing a white shirt.
- Suspect #4. White male 9-11 years old, wearing a blue shirt.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Sarpy County Crime Stoppers 402-592-7867 (STOP) or leave an on-line tip here.
