(Sarpy County, NE) -- Bond is set for three adults charged in connection to an unprovoked attack on a Sarpy County family.
Thursday morning, a judge set bond at $500,000 each for 40 year old Jeremy Brown, 37 year old Brittany King and King's 18 year old son Maddix Foss. Brown and Foss are charged with first-degree assault, while King is facing charges of second-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. The three, along with an 11 year old and 13 year old, are accused of shooting fireworks at a family and assaulting to two men near 135th and Harrison on July 4th. Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis says one of the children is Brown's son, while the other is King's daughter. They are expected to face similar charges as the adults.
The Sheriff's Office says on July 4th, a family was sitting outside on their driveway near 132nd and Harrison enjoying the fireworks, when they were approached by multiple suspects. Investigators say the suspects began to ignite Roman Candle fireworks and shoot them at the victims in the driveway.
Sarpy County Sheriff's Lt. James Wrigley tells KFAB Radio News, "The natural reaction is to go confront these people, and push them away, get them off their property and that's when kind of a melee happened." A physical altercation ensued with two victims suffering injuries. A 61 year old male victim suffered broken ribs, while a 35 year old male suffered serious head injuries. Wrigley says, "He was almost knocked unconscious, had an orbital fracture and some facial fractures."
The sheriff’s office says that more charges and arrests could come as the investigation continues. Preliminary hearings for each of the three adult suspects are scheduled to take place August 16th.
