(Ames, IA) -- An Ames family is displaced from their home after a fire. Crews were called to 12-02 Garfield Avenue Sunday, August 14th around 5:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke coming from the front porch and from multiple windows. The Ames Fire Department says crews were able to knock down the flames and go inside and keep the fire from spreading. The occupants were not home at the time and discovered the fire upon their arrival back home. Six pets died in the fire. No word yet what caused the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the family to find a temporary place to stay.
