Man Dies After Des Moines Motorcycle Crash

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Police say a man critically hurt in a motorcycle crash last weekend has died. Police say 23-year-old Cole McBee's motorcycle collided with a car on Douglas Avenue near 27th Street, early Sunday.

Des Moines Fire Department medics transported McBee to a local hospital, he was later transferred to an Iowa City hospital, where he remained in critical condition until this morning when he died.

Investigators say after examining evidence and taking witness statements, it's been determined that McBee was headed eastbound on Douglas Avenue a a high-rate of speed, when a car entering Douglas at 27th Street entered the pat of the motorcycle. The driver of the car, a 39-year-old woman was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

It's the city's 18th traffic-related fatality of the year, and the 9th involving a motorcycle.
