(Des Moines, IA) -- Tests are confirming another case of bird flu in Iowa. It's the second case of avian influenza in a commercial turkey flock in Sac County. It's the 8th case to be confirmed this fall in either a commercial or backyard poultry flock.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture reminds commercial and backyard flock owners to prevent contact between their birds and wild birds. Sick birds or unusual deaths among birds should be immediately reported to state or federal officials. Biosecurity resources and best practices are available at iowaagriculture.gov/biosecurity. If producers suspect signs of HPAI in their flocks, they should contact their veterinarian immediately. Possible cases must also be reported to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship at (515) 281-5305.
Bird flu cases this fall have been detected in Dallas, Wright (2), Louisa, Buena Vista, Sac (2), and Cherokee counties. Cases have impacted backyard species, commercial layer chickens, and commercial turkey flocks.
