Severe Storms Spawn Tornados In Eastern Iowa

(Iowa County, IA) -- There was some wild and unusual weather for January this (Monday) afternoon in eastern Iowa. Severe storms spawned tornados in Iowa County. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities confirmed a tornado touched down near Williamsburg then lifted around 2:20 p.m. Iowa County Emergency Management reports a semi and a passenger car were blown over on I-80 at mile marker 223, near Williamsburg. There were no injuries reported.

A funnel cloud was reported in Jones County. A storm spotter reported nickel to quarter size hail covering the ground in Iowa County. Storms prompted tornado warnings for Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, and Linn counties.

Several locations reported pea-to-ping-pong ball size hail.
