Police Release Name Of Pedestrian Who Died In Southeast Des Moines Crash

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Police are sharing more details about a man who died after he was hit by a car. Police say the 52-year-old Woodward man was hit on Southeast 14th Street, near Southridge mall Friday night. The crash was reported at 9 p.m. Police say medics transported Boun Van Quang to a local hospital where he later died.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2020 Lincoln MKZ was traveling northbound, driven by 64-year-old Mona Fickes of Des Moines. Witness reports, and evidence at the scene, indicate that the pedestrian was in the roadway, not near a crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle.

Investigators say the driver had the right of way at the time of the crash and tried to avoid hitting the pedestrian.

The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit continues the technical investigation of this crash. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available for release.

This is the fourth traffic-related fatality of 2023.
