(Undated) -- The number of burn bans has expanded rapidly in about a week's time. There are now 20 counties under burn bans, due to dry conditions. The counties are in western and northern Iowa.

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Northwest Iowa.

Forecasters say the combination of above average temperatures, dry conditions, and gusty southwest winds will lead to very high to extreme fire danger over northwest Iowa thru early this (Wednesday) evening.
