Deere and Company is announcing layoffs because of a slowdown in demand for farm equipment.
It says it is placing 600 workers on indefinite layoff and the action affects Deere's plant in Ankeny as well as facilities in Moline and East Moline Illinois as well as Coffeyville, Kansas.
In July, Deere informed employees at its Ankeny facility of an extended shutdown affecting most manufacturing workers there. It is running from September 29th to October 31st.
110 Ankeny employees have been told they are being placed on indefinite layoff September 29. The plant currently employs 1,180.
Deere also has implemented a seasonal shutdown affecting most of the manufacturing workforce at the John Deere Ottumwa Works.
Sales and revenue were down five percent in the just concluded third quarter compared to a year ago.
