Dan Charleston fired for insubordination, investigation over harrassment

WHO Radio News has obtained the termination letter given to Sgt. Dan Charleston when he was terminated from the Polk County Sheriff's office Friday June 23rd.

In it, Sheriff Dan McCarthy states that Charleston refused to follow director orders on at least two occasions in the past when it comes to duty rosters.  In addition, the letter alludes to an investigation by the office's human resources department into allegations that female subbordinates were "treated badly" by Charleston.

The incidents in question pre-date any controversial comments made by Charleston on his Facebook page that referred to the Muslim faith.

Charleston has had a storied history with the Sheriff's department and was fired by the previous sheriff but reinstated.  And he still has a federal lawsuit against McCarthy pending.
