Des Moines school custodian shot by kid with BB gun

Police confirm kid shot school custodian with BB gun

A local school custodian is okay after being shot by a kid with a BB gun.

Des Moines school Spokesperson Amanda Lewis tells WHO Radio News that the woman was shot at Hiatt Middle School Tuesday afternoon, then the kid took off on a bike.  The custodian was hit in the shoulder, but not seriously injured.  Police are looking at surveillance video.

There was a second school gun scare Tuesday, at another Des Moines middle school, an hour earlier over the lunch hour.  A student at Callanan Middle School reported seeing the butt of a gun sticking out of another student's backpack.  School officials called police.

Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Parizek say that also turned out to be a BB gun, but says the two cases are unrelated.
