Firefighters on the scene of Exira, Iowa fire

Firefighters are fighting a structure fire in downtown Exira that began early Friday morning.

According to KSOM Radio, the call went out at around 2:20 from Jerry’s Joint at 100 W. Washington Street. Smoke could be seen for miles as the blaze billowed from the two-story structure that was recently renovated.

The fire has spread to the roofs of the two structures to the west of Jerry’s and possibly a third and fourth building to the west.

At least 16, possibly 17 fire departments are at the scene, most of them hauling water. The Atlantic and Harlan Ladder trucks are pouring water on top of the charred structure.

The power has been cut and fire fighters remain on scene and will be for several hours to come.
