National Night Out events in Des Moines area communities

August 1, 2017 is National Night Out  

"There are about 34 different neighborhoods that are having block parties and other social events, bar-b-q and other events, just to bring people out."  Des Moines Police Seregeant Paul Parizek tells WHO Radio News.

National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes positive police-community relationships. 

This is Des Moines’ 30th year of National Night Out 

Neighborhoods are hosting block parties, special activities, and neighbors are encouraged to turn on their porch lights tonight.

Beaverdale/Waveland Park Neighborhoods: 6:00-8:00PM, “Beaver Bend” – SnookiesIntersection of Beaver and 41st . Food and Snookies ice cream. 

Broadway Heights Apartments: 6:00PM-8:00PM, 4216 NE 50th Street; Food, Ice Cream, Movie

Woodland Heights Neighborhood: 5:30-8:00PM, Chamberlain Park, 2150 Woodland Avenue. Food, games, entertainment.

Altoona Christian Church Join the Altoona Christian Church from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for a FREE family-friendly event! This community festival will honor local police and fire departments.  Parking is available across the street at Clay Elementary School.

Polk City Polk The Polk City Police Department will host their National Night Out event from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.  There will be several displays and vendors in front of the Police and Fire Department buildings on Van Dorn Street.

Urbandale This National Award-Winning event is a fun evening to come out and get to know your local law enforcement to help keep our community a safe place to live, work and play!  You will be able to meet officers from patrol, bicycle patrol, Suburban Emergency Response Team, K-9 Sabre and many more!  This year’s event will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Urbandale Police Department’s front parking lot and the soccer field to the west of the Police Department.

Windsor HeightsWindsor Heights Police DepartmentThere’s something for every member of the family to enjoy at Windsor Heights’ annual National Night Out event. There will be food, inflatables, helicopter display, balloon animals, stickers, coloring books, face painting, spin art, barrel train rides, rock wall, K-9 demo, prizes and drawings and jaws of life demo. Join the festivities from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Colby Park.
