Where in Iowa will the clouds part for the eclipse? Iowa's First Gentleman

Iowa's First Gentleman, Kevin Reynolds, joined us in the studio this morning just after the 8:30 news to invite you to a very special Terrace Hill Garden Party on Tuesday, August 29th from 5:30-7:30PM.  All proceedds will benefit the restoration of the pergola timbers on the Historic Pool House.  You'll be able to indulge in the tantalizing tastes of summer from the Terrace Hill Gardens and enjoy the view of the Reflecting Pool from the spectacular East Porch of Terrace Hill.  Reservations are $45.00 per guest and are available on www.eventbrite.com or by calling 515-281-7205.  Hear the entire interview below.

Meteorologist Jeriann Ritter of TV-13 joined us several times today to update us on the weather conditions for the Eclipse today.  Unfortunately, even though the rain will be finished by about noon, Jeriann does not expect the cloud cover to clear enough to have a view of the eclipse.  She does say there is a slight chance...so start praying now!  She did say there is a greater chance of seeing the eclipse in the very SE corner of Iowa.  We are very thankful for the rain though!!!!  In Iowa, the moon will cover 95.1% of the sun and will be in the sun's path starting at 11:42AM and continue for 2 hours 51 minutes.  The best time to see the peak of the eclipse will be at 1:08PM.  There will be a huge viewing event on the steps of the Iowa Capitol with NASA and Science Center of Iowa folks.  You can also go to the live viewing event at the Science Center with a special entry fee of only $5.00.  We want to hear from those of you who see the event here in Iowa as well as those of you who may have traveled to Missouri to see it on tomorrow's Van and Bonnie!

Hy-Vee has once again purchased the Grand Champion 4-H Market Steer, Grand Champion 4-H Market Hog and the Grand Champion 4-H Market Lamb from the Sale of Champions at the Iowa State Fair on Sunday evening.  And, once again, they are giving all that meat...the best Iowa has to offer...back to the community!!!  For your chance to win, go to www.whoradio.com and click on contests.  We will be announcing the winners on September 5th at 7:10AM.  GOOD LUCK!!!!

School in the Des Moines School District begins on Wednesday morning, so we will be playing Van's annual rendition of "I Trust You'll Treat Her Well".  If you have a little one heading out to Kindergarten for the first time, you won't want to miss this!

Tomorrow on Van and Bonnie, Jeff Angelo will be back in the Van chair....starting at 6AM....it's Bonnie and Leila from 5-6AM!  We would love to hear from those of you who were lucky enough to see the eclipse and we'll talk about a Walk For Lupus.  Our Astronomer, Herb Schwartz, will be joining us after the 7:30 news to talk about his experience with the eclipse!

Have a super day!!

Bonnie
