New Ronald McDonald Home Build in 11 Days! What it means to Des Moines!

Van and Bonnie broadcast from the building site of the new Ronald McDonald House at 15th & Pleasant this morning.  The old Ronald McDonald House was torn down and Hubbell Realty is doing an Extreme Build to build an all new Ronald McDonald House in 11 days!  Following are some of the fun interviews we did this morning...

This is Rick Tollakson President & CEO of Hubbell Realty Company.  We spoke a couple of times with Rick this morning and what he has pulled together is simply amazing.  Hear what he had to say...

Just after the 6:30 news, Brenda Miller, Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald House joined us at the Ronald McDonald build and she is quite emotional about this new facility and what it will mean to families with kids in hospitals in Des Moines.  Hear what she had to say here...

Rush Wyckoff of Wyckoff Heating & Cooling joined us on the air just after the 7AM news.  They are a trade partner involved with the Extreme Build as well.  The Ronald McDonald House has special meaning to Rush as well.  Hear his interview here...

Larissa O'Connor and her grandmother, Sharon Kohler, joined us just after the 7:30AM news.  Larissa had issues with her pregnancy at 30 weeks and had to have an emergency C-Section.  Little Gabriella Mae was brought into the world just a little too early, but is doing well at Iowa Methodist Hospital.  She is up to 3 lbs. and is 14 3/4" long.  Larissa hopes to bring her home by the end of October.  Larissa is so thankful for the Ronald McDonald folks.  Since the old home has been torn down, Larissa is staying at HCI on Easton. They have been working with the Ronald McDonald House to house families with kids staying at Des Moines hospitals while the new Home is being built.  Hear what Larissa had to say this morning here...

Ben Fowles of Kline Electric joined us shortly after 8:30AM.  He is very excited to be a part of the Ronald McDonald Extreme Build.  He too has a connection with the Ronald McDonald House.  There's a lot of electric to be run in a building this large with three kitchens, family room and 18 suites!  Here what Ben had to say here...

Thank you to all the companies involved with this project and to all the volunteers...800+!  This project used 450 tons of asphalt, 800 gallons of paint, 404 yards of concrete, 114,00 sq. ft. of drywall, 1,759 yards of carpet and 10, 600 sq. ft. of siding!  The ribbon cutting is scheduled for Monday, September 25th. Congratulations!

Tomorrow on Van and Bonnie, do you have a big dream but don't know how to make it a reality...we may be able to help!  Also, we'll be doing a Hawkeye game preview with Ross Peterson of Sound-Off.

Have a great day!

Bonnie
