Man hit by SUV while helping crash victim on I-80 in eastern Iowa

IOWA COUNTY, IOWA - An Illinois man who was trying to help a semi driver hurt after crashing his rig and blocking eastbound I-80 early Sunday morning was hit by an SUV and killed.

The Iowa State Patrol says the Plainfield, Illinois man was a good Samaritan who checked on the driver and was returning to his own car to call 911 just after 1:30 Sunday morning.

The Patrol says 43-year-old Stanislaw Gruzka was trying to help the the driver of the semi rig overturned and was blocking traffic on I-80 in Iowa County.  

The 37-year-old Tyler, Texas semi driver,  and a 56-year-old Plymouth, Michigan man who was involved in a secondary crash were taken to the hospital.
