Missouri Trooper, connected to Clive man's death fired

The Missouri state trooper who was sentenced to 10 days in jail for the death of a Clive man has now been fired from his job.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Anthony Piercy was fired on Friday.

Piercy was found guilty of a misdemeanor in the drowning of 20-year-old Brandon Ellingson of Clive in May 2014.

Investigators said Piercy did not secure a life jacket, when he took Brandon Ellingson into custody in 2014, at the Lake of the Ozarks.   Ellingson was handcuffed and drowned when he fell off the water patrol boat.

Piercy was sentenced in September for negligent operation of a vessel.
