(DES MOINES, Iowa)  A West Des Moines man's been sentenced in Federal Court in Des Moines to seven years in prison, for carjacking a relative at gunpoint last year.

Twenty-five-year-old Joseph Salcido pleaded guilty July 9, 2017 to multiple charges, stemming from an incident last April.

He admitted to the carjacking, and to leading police on a high-speed chase in Des Moines, in which he ran four stop-signs.

Police say Salcido tried to ditch drugs and a 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol, with an obliterated serial number.   He also made four phone calls from the jail, to try and get others to pick up the drugs and gun, officers were able to find both.
