Ames, Iowa Police arrest man in park assault

(AMES, Iowa)   Police in Ames have charged a man accused in a sexual assault at an Ames park in January of 2017. 

Twenty-three-year-old Devontez Voigts, formerly of Ames has been charged with First Degree Sexual Assault, First Degree Kidnapping, and Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury.

Voigts was booked into the Story County Jail, bond was set at $2 million.  He was then transferred to the Newton Correctional Facility.

Police say DNA evidence led them to Voigts.  

Police say the female victim told police she was repeatedly assaulted, and strangled January 14th, 2017 at Franklin Park in Ames.
