North Koreans live under a brutal regime. I am sure you've wondered the same thing that I have: why aren't North Korean Olympic athletes defecting while in South Korea?
This may come as no surprise, but there are reports that North Korea’s team of 500 athletes, cheerleaders and officials at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics are being watched 24 hours a day to prevent them from defecting.
According to CNN, rather than bunk with teammates, North Korean competitors have been forced to share sleeping arrangements with private minders.
One former North Korean policeman told CNN that the country’s athletes would not even be allowed to go to the bathroom alone.
