Des Moines candidate fails to get enough signatures

(DES MOINES, Iowa)  A  Des Moines woman who made a last minute scramble to get enough signatures to run for Congress in Iowa's Third District, has fallen short.

The Iowa Secretary of State's Office says Theresa Greenfield submitted signatures before the 5 p.m. Friday deadline, but she gathered less than 1,500, she needed 1,790 signatures to qualify.

Greenfield, a Democrat, found herself in a last-minute dash to gather signatures, after her campaign manager admitted some of the signatures gathered previously were not legit.

The Iowa Secretary of State's Office says nomination papers from First Congressional District candidate Courtney Rowe, Democrat, and gubernatorial candidate Ron Corbett, Republican, were reviewed and accepted.
