DES MOINES, Iowa - Des Moines firefighters were called to two separate house fires early Tuesday morning by two different good-Samaritans.

A passerby reported a fire at 306 East 17th Street just before 2:00 a.m. by pounding on the fire station window and yelling.

"We had an adult male pounding on the door and screaming fire."  Des Moines Fire Inspector Brian O'Keefe tells WHO Radio News.  Firefighters only had to go around the corner to find the house.  One person from the house was taken to the hospital.

Then about 4:30 a.m. another east-side fire was reported.

"We had the paperboy call to report a fire at 2500 East Leach."  O'Keefe said.  "Delivering the paper, when firefighters arrived the family was already outside.  We had a small fire on the first floor."

No one was injured in that fire.
