Men armed with handguns, rob Maxwell, Iowa bank

(MAXWELL, Iowa)  Two men armed with handguns robbed the Maxwell State Bank this morning.   The Story County Sheriff's Office got a 9-1-1 call this morning around 9:20, about two black male suspects who ordered employees to the floor, and left with an undetermined amount of money.

Employees say the suspects had their faces covered, in an attempt to disguise their appearance.

There were no customers in the bank at the time, and there were no injuries.

Story County Sheriff's Deputies found a vehicle believed to have been involved in the robbery in the southwest corner of Maxwell, near Maxwell City Park, but there was no sign of the suspects.

Story County Sheriff's Captain Barry Thomas says a police dog failed to pick up a scent, so they believe the suspects left in a second vehicle.   He says investigators will be looking at surveillance footage from the bank and nearby businesses, to come up with good descriptions of the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Story County Sheriff's Office at 515-382-6566 or Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa at 515-223-1400.
