Iowa grassland fire risk very high to extreme MAP

DES MOINES, Iowa - The grassland fire risk continues to grow across Iowa, with dry vegetation and windy conditions, the central, east central, and south west parts of the state have a Very High risk of rural grass fires.  This includes all of the Des Moines metro area and the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City areas.

Northwest Iowa and the northernmost counties are in the Extreme risk category.  According to the National Weather Service Extreme grassland fire risk means potential for large fires exists. Fires spread rapidly. Extreme fire behavior is probable. Critical burning conditions exist.
