Man in custody after punching Des Moines Police Officer

DES MOINES, Iowa-   Des Moines Police say a man, who led them on an overnight chase on the city's south side and punched an officer is behind bars.

Our News partner, Channel 13 WHO-TV reports offficers stopped a vehicle, driven by  38-year-old Anthony Marquez at SE 9th and Bancroft, because of a traffic violation.

Marquez told police his license was revoked, he then sped off, leading police on a chase.   He stopped at 30th and Bell, got out of the vehicle, charged at officers, then punched one in the face, and kept punching the officer, during a struggle.     

Another officer used a Taser, and Marquez was taken into custody.

Marquez was wanted locally for theft and eluding.  He's also wanted for weapons trafficking in Arizona.   He now faces a charge of assault on a police officer and an additional eluding charge.

A passenger in the vehicle, 31-year-old Monique McGregor, was taken into custody on drug possession and theft charges.
