Man arrested in southeast Iowa fatal hit and run

DAVIS COUNTY, Iowa- A southeast Iowa man's charged with vehicular homicide, in a hit-and-run case that resulted in a nine-year-old boy's death.

Forty-one-year-old Terry Petary of Drakesville is in the Davis County Jail, on a 20-thousand dollar, cash-only bond.   

Sheriff Dave Davis says witnesses saw a white Dodge pick-up in the area that night, investigators checked out every similar vehicle in the county, and Petary's name came up as a suspect.   

Deputies found him in nearby West Grove, and noted damage to his truck.  Petary is accused of driving a vehicle that hit nine-year-old Merlin Beechy and his 12-year-old brother Nathan, and then leaving the scene.   Merlin died of his injuries,  Nathan was injured and taken to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, he was discharged from the hospital Monday.
