Water Works Treatment Facility spills liquid chlorine into Maffit Reservoir

CUMMING -- Hazmat crews from the Des Moines Fire Department were called in after 500 gallons of liquid chlorine leaked into Maffit Reservoir Tuesday.

It happened at the L.D. McMullen Water Treatment facility in Cumming.  Des Moines Fire Department spokesman Brian O'Keefe says about 500 gallons of the liquid chlorine leaked into the Reservoir.

No injuries have been reported and officials with the Des Moines Water Works were saying there's no threat to the public.
