Prairie City boy to be Iowa Hawkeye Kid Captain at Outback Bowl

IOWA CITY, Iowa-  A Prairie City boy will be the Kid Captain for the Iowa Hawkeyes at their upcoming New Year's Day bowl game.

Gabe Graber was born with a rare heart defect, and had two surgeries by the time he was two years old.

He had a stroke that left him partially paralyzed but two months later was able to walk again.   Gabe turns 14-years-old on January 1st, the day the Hawkeyes face Mississippi State in the Outback Bowl.

You can hear the game New Year's Day on AM 1040 WHO in Des Moines and AM 600 WMT in Cedar Rapids.

The Kid Captain program is a partnership between UI Stead Family Children's Hospital and the Iowa Hawkeyes to honor pediatric patients and celebrate their inspirational stories
