Johnston woman called husband, not 911, after toddler found unresponsive

Trina Mazza

JOHNSTON, Iowa – Police say an unlicensed daycare provider called her husband, not 911, after she found a 17-month-old unresponsive in her house.

According to a search warrant, 47-year-old Trina Mazza dialed her husband, Michael Mazza, after finding Tucker Schneider stuck between two bassinets on February 15th.

Records show Michael told police he found Trina attempting CPR on the child when he arrived home.

Schneider was taken to Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines, but he died two days later.

Autopsy results show Schneider died of accidental traumatic asphyxia, which can happen when pressure on the chest stops breathing.

WHO Channel 13 reports Trina Mazza is scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 2nd.
