$400 million Iowa interstate hwy. project nearing completion

SIOUX City, Iowa - A $400 million project on an interstate highway in Iowa is set to wrap up after 11 years of construction.

The Sioux City Journal reports Interstate 29 is being expanded from four to six lanes through the Sioux City area with completion coming at the end of the year.

The newspaper says workers still have to pour concrete for some bridge approaches and install guardrails as well as paint some stripes.

The city spent more than $30 million to move utilities in the downtown area for the highway to be widened.

The Journal reports the Department of Transportation will perform some street work below the freeway next summer.

The project was to widen each direction of the highway form two to three lanes began in 2005.
