Des Moines Man Charged For Shooting At Man, Injuring A Dog

A Des Moines man is facing attempted murder and other charges in a Sunday morning shooting at an apartment complex.

Des Moines police say it all began around 5:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of SE King Avenue when they investigated reports of gunshots inside an apartment.

Police say when officers arrived, 21-year-old Missael Campos had taken off on foot. Police say evidence indicates several rounds were fired and that a 19-year-old was the intended target. Witnesses told police it all began with an argument between the two.

While no on was injured, police say a dog was shot several times and is not expected to survive.

Officers were able to locate Campos near SE 22nd Street and Hartford Avenue, where police say he again attempted to flee from police, but was caught after a short foot chase.

Police believe Campos' behavior indicated that he may have been under the influence of narcotics.

Campos was taken to the Polk County Jail and charged with attempted murder and interference with official acts. More charges are possible as the investigation unfolds.

During the investigation, police say found a large quantity of drugs present at the scene.
