DES MOINES, Iowa - A 56-year-old man was hit by a car near 11th and University in Des Moines.
Police say Mark Wheeler was hit by a mini van while crossing University around 6:20 Monday night.
Wheeler's still in the hospital in critical condition but he's expected to survive.
The driver of the minivan was 42 year old Des Moines resident Ericka McConnell, who was not injured.
Excessive speed is not considered to be a contributing factor, although impairment and/or distracted driving have not yet been ruled out.
Des Moines police continue to investigate the incident.
