Grinnell College is sending students home on coronavirus concerns

GRINNELL, Iowa -- Coronavirus fears are closing down an Iowa college campus.

Grinnell College in Grinnell says it's sending students home for the rest of the semester in an effort to limit the spread of coronavirus.

The school says all students should leave campus by Monday, March 23rd. They'll finish their classes online through May.

"We are committed to taking action now so that we can decrease risk to our community. While we acknowledge these decisions are disruptive to the remainder of the Spring term, we believe they are essential to the well-being of Grinnellians and the broader community" says Grinnell College President Raynard Kington.

Grinnell College says it's also canceling all athletic events for the rest of the semester, and is considering cancelling it's graduation ceremony and other large events

The school has also canceled all college-sponsored international and domestic travel.
