Iowa coronavirus cases near 2,000

DES MOINES, Iowa -- There are nearly 2,000 COVID-19 coronavirus cases in Iowa.

The Department of Public Health reported 96 new cases on Wednesday with four additional deaths. There are now 1,995 cases and 53 deaths.

The Department says the new deaths are are elderly adults in Polk and Clayton counties, and older adults in Allamakee and Johnson counties.

Public Health also says there's another outbreak in a long-term care facility--the latest in Muscatine County. Seven long-term care facilities in Iowa now have coronavirus outbreaks.

The state says more than 10 percent of Iowa's positive cases and 49 percent of deaths are tied to outbreaks in long-term care facilities.
