Some Activities Allowed in Iowa Starting Monday

DES MOINES, Iowa - Some activities are being allowed starting today across the state.

Those include farmers' markets...and elective surgery and procedures.

Governor Kim Reynolds plans to make more announcements today about possible re-openings. She says people still need to stay six feet apart and not gather in big groups.

Several farmers' markets, including the Des Moines Farmers' Market, are looking at options for re-opening. The Des Moines Farmers' Market runs May 5 - October 27.

Health care providers can resume elective surgery and procedures through a phased-in approach, as long as they're not using personal protective equipment meant for COVID-19 responders.

Reynolds says Iowa has not experienced the health care surge other states have, and says there's an ample supply hospital beds, ICU's and ventilators.

The governor's state public health emergency declaration runs out at midnight Thursday.
