Overall Number of Unemployed Iowans Down for 4th Week In A row

DES MOINES, Iowa - New numbers show first time jobless claims were up last week in Iowa, by 3,663 to 10,112 from 6,449 in the previous week.

But ongoing claims, which reflects the unemployment rate, are down for the fourth week in a row.

Ongoing claims total 159,996, down 2,596 from 162,562 in the previous week.

By comparison, ongoing claims peaked in the first week of May at 191,257

Unemployment insurance benefit payments totaled $40,515,869.87 last week, down from $51,043,465.89 in the previous week.

The following industries had the most claims:

  • Manufacturing (2,080)
  • Industry Not Available - Self-employed, Independent Contractors, etc. (1,421)
  • Health Care & Social Assistance (1,010)
  • Education Services (722)
  • Accommodation & Food Services (693)
