Des Moines City Council Passes Plan to Expand Bar, Restaurant Capacity

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Des Moines City Council says its taking steps to help bars and restaurants dealing with hardships from COVID-19 shutdowns.

The council unanimously passed the 'Dine Out Des Moines' plan Thursday night, which lets bars and restaurants set up service areas outside of their businesses on sidewalks, parking lots and city streets.

The move come directly after Governor Kim Reynolds lifted 50 percent capacity restrictions from the pandemic.

The city says increasing the footprint of bars and restaurants will let them serve more customers while maintaining social distancing guidelines.
