Ankeny standoff ends peacefully, suspect in custody

Police in Ankeny have taken a suspect into custody after an hours-long standoff at an apartment complex.

The standoff started around 4:30 p.m. on Friday after police say the man told 911 he had a bomb.

The man was also making threats to other people at the apartment complex before police arrived and evacuated the complex.

Police say they had phone contact with the suspect for an hour before he stopped answering. He then started shooting inside the building.

Police sent a CERT team in to arrest the man.

Investigators have not released the man's identity or said what charges he'll face.
