Polk County Now Requiring Face Coverings In Its Buildings

DES MOINES, Iowa - More workers in the Des Moine area are now required to wear face masks

The Polk County Board of Supervisors has passed a resolution calling for employees and visitors to county buildings to wear face coverings.

The resolution also encourages businesses throughout the county to explore similar measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Polk County Supervisors have written a letter to Governor Kim Reynolds asking her to adopt a mask order for the state, and have not received a response. Governor Reynolds has resisted imposing any face mask order, and Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller has said local governments do not have the authority to impose such mandates.

Last week, the Des Moines City Council approved a resolution requiring those inside city buildings to wear face masks, and encourages people in Des Moines to wear masks while in public.
