Urbandale Closes City Buildings, Asks Residents to Wear Masks

URBANDALE, Iowa - The city of Urbandale is closing its public buildings and urging people to wear a mask.

The Urbandale City Council has passed a resolution asking residents to wear masks inside the city. Mayor Bob Andeweg is calling it the best line of defense until a vaccine is developed.

The city is also encouraging business to support the use of masks inside their buildings.

In addition, Urbandale is closing city buildings over COVID-19. The city said it's making the move because of an increase in virus cases in central Iowa.

Urbandale's city hall, fire and police stations, indoor pool and library are closed until further notice as of Wednesday morning.

The city council meetings will now be live-streamed on Webex. Urbandale will continue to operate on a normal work schedule for employees, with extra safety and cleaning precautions in place.
